INSIGHT from the Dalai Lama© If in the midst of your enjoyment of the world you have a moment, try to help in however small a way those who are downtrodden and those who, for whatever reason, cannot or do not help themselves. Try not to turn away from those whose appearance is disturbing, from the ragged and unwell. Try never to think of them as inferior to yourself. If you can, try not to even think of yourself as better than the humblest beggar. You will look the same in your grave. From a June 2, 2008 Calendar page (Do not have calendar source)
I will see everyone else as I see myself. This affirmation is about perception. After saying this affirmation, ponder it for a moment. People are different in many ways that can’t be denied. We look different; we have different tastes and backgrounds. If you focus on differences, as the ego does, you can’t escape the tendency to feel better or worse than someone else. This is the game of comparison, and comparison always leads to judgment. Yet without trying to erase any differences you don’t have to play the game of comparison. Permit everyone to have what you have: wholeness. See with the eyes of your true self and know that if you are complete, everyone else must also be complete. ©Deepak Chopra, The Deeper Wound, Recovering the Soul from Fear and Suffering
