As A Man Thinketh, So He Is

Speech given by Donna Rose Brown

“As a man thinketh, so he is, as he continues to think, so he remains. Man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny."

                                   James Allen

The true measure of success lies not so much in what you have achieved, but in whether you have made a difference—it’s knowing you have touched the lives of others, and have in some way made the world a little bit brighter, a little bit better.

Attitude

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people say or think or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company … a church …. a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you…we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

                               Charles Swindol

I was in a spiritual class and the teacher said “what you wish for others—you wish for yourself.”  That statement hit home for one of the ladies in the class.  She had to share her story.  She said, “my best friend stole my fiancé from me and I wished for her a long lonely life.”  She started crying and said “I’m the one who has lived the long lonely life—for over 10 years now--they’re very happy.”

That was an example of the Universal Law of Cause & Effect.  It is also known as “what goes around comes around,” and “you reap what you sow.”  You see she sowed seeds of loneliness and that’s what she harvested.

You must understand that thought is energy.  All thoughts appear from the mind.  The Universal Law accepts whatever thoughts, feelings, and actions you project and reflects them back to you in the form of events that you experience every day.  What you send out you attract to you--like a boomerang.

James Allen wrote “As a man thinketh, so he is, as he continues to think, so he remains. Man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny.

You see, you are a product of what you think about.  Your life to this point is a result of the choices you have made.  You made the choices and you can’t blame anyone but yourself.

If you want to see change in your life, you must first change your thinking.  You must learn to master your thoughts.  Remember:  What you send out, you attract to you—like a boomerang.

Romans 12:2 says “…be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

How do we renew our minds and transform ourselves?  By changing our mental dialog.  By changing our attitudes.  The biggest difference between people is their attitudes. I remember when I was growing up my Mom would say “you better change that attitude” and “you can do anything you put your mind to!”  If you want to be happy and successful you must develop an attitude of success.

What is success?    The true measure of success lies not so much in what you have achieved, but in whether you have made a difference—it’s knowing you have touched the lives of others, and have in some way made the world a little bit brighter, a little bit better.   Author Unknown

Again, as a man thinketh, so he is.  What you put into your mind is what you become.  What you see, hear and read affects your attitude.  Remove negativity from your life.  See uplifting or humorous movies, listen to soothing music, and read inspirational writings.  Associate yourself with positive people, not the negative people who see the glass half-empty instead of half-full.  Negativity is contagious just like being positive is.

I have to close with this poem by Charles Swindol.  It is among my favorites:

Attitude:  “The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
